[How To] Boot Games Off USB With PS2
What You need
Usb Extreme: Link: http://sksapps.com/hd/USBExtreme_wininst.zip
Usb Advance: Link: http://sksapps.com/hd/USBAdvance.rar
Swap Magic - Use google to find it , or just go to www.estarland.com
An iPod with at least 5 gb for dvd games and 800 mb for cd games, or a USB hard drive (40 gigs or larger), but it can work with a smaller hard drive I would think..
First You want to download Usb Extreme and open the folder and and drag the file to your desktop and set it aside.
Then you want to Download Usb advance and burn the cue file with Nero or Alcohol 120% onto a CD.
FOR MP3 PLAYERS OR HARD DRIVES Grab your Mp3 player or disk drive and connect it to your computer. Click on My Computer and right click on the drive off your device, and click format and click the box quick format.
FOR IPODS open Itunes or Ipod updater which ever one you use and Click restore.
Open USBExtreme and go to the tab that says Disk Format and click format. Next select your drive and click OK. When done, you can close it.
When that is completed, put the cd you burned in your PC’s drive and open it from My Computer.
Right click on your mp3 player or iPod or hard drive icon and click open. Right click anywhere in that drive and make a new folder with the name “SWAPMAGIC” in all capitols without the quotes.
Drag all your files from your burned CD to that folder, and rename the .ELF file to SWAPMAGIC.ELF.
Installing games onto your device
Open USBExtreme and click on the tab games installer. Put your games in the drive and pick your drive. It is in media type (blue bottom cd, silver cd Dvd) and give it a name and install. The installation is lengthy so give it some time.
After its installed, put Swap Magic in your PS2 and plug your drive in. Turn on the hard drive, and it will take you to the Usb Advance Screen . Pick your game and then play!
If stuck, please post comments here and I will try to help you as soon as I can. Like I mentioned before as of 1/12/08, I have not tried this tutorial, but I will soon, so please be patient.
Tips:
1) Make sure to make your USB hard drive partition a primary. I am not sure if it needs to be logical drive, but I made my drive a primary partition.
2) To transfer the game files from the PC to the USB hard drive in XP, do this:
Goto My Computer->Properties->Hardware->Device Manager->Disk Drives->(external one here)->Properties->Policies->Optimize for performance. Speed varies from from 1MBps to about 10-15MBps, which is damn fast. Also, do not forget to unplug the device the proper way (that is Unplug or eject hardware)
3) Use CD Swap Magic and boot off of it. Use that to boot the burnt CD of USBAdvance. If done correctly, you will be taken to the USBAdvance (or maybe its USBExtreme logo screen, I forget :P). Turn on your USB hard drive, and within a few seconds, you will see your game(s) show up on the screen. Highlight your desired game, press “X”, and within 7 seconds your game will load! Enjoy!
